 DMI stations

Annual mean temperatures from DMI’s stations. Data is shown as deviations from the 1981-2010 average.

 PROMICE stations

Monthly mean temperature from September 2007 to present, measured at the PROMICE stations.

DMI:

Annual mean temperatures from DMI’s station. Data is shown as deviations from the 1981-2010 average.

PROMICE:

Monthly mean temperature from September 2007 to present, measured at the PROMICE station. Not all stations have data at all times.

Please note the difference between the DMI and PROMICE series: The DMI data are shown as deviations from the 1981-2010 average, while the PROMICE curves show the actual temperatures.

Where does the data come from?

DMI has a number of stations in Greenland. For historical reasons, they are situated close to the coast. Several of them have rather long time series, and in the case of Nuuk, observations go back almost 250 years. There are, however, some interruptions in the time series.

One cannot expect that temperature observations spanning centuries are homogeneous. This can be due to changes in station location (for example the distance to the coast, but also changes in buildings around the station), as well as changes in instrumentation, observing times and the like. This means that the time series needs to be homogenized. This is in principle done by comparing to observations from other nearby stations that have not undergone these changes. The time series shown here have been carefully homogenized.

In addition, 25 automatic weather stations were installed on the ice sheet in the framework of the PROMICE project. 22 of these are still active. The stations observe temperature, air pressure, humidity, wind, radiation as well as the position, height and inclination of the station. Temperature measurements of these stations are also shown here.

Please note the difference between the DMI and PROMICE series: The DMI data are shown as deviations from the 1981-2010 average, while the PROMICE curves show the actual temperatures.

PROMICE.dk: The stations observe temperature, air pressure, humidity, wind, radiation as well as the position, height and inclination of the station.

g-e-m.dk: Atmospheric measurements as well as data from Arctic terrestrial, limnic and marine ecosystems have been collected under the umbrella of Greenland Ecosystem Monitoring since 1995. The data base currently covers data from monitoring programmes from Zackenberg (1995-) and Kobbefjord at Nuuk (2007-).
